Korea, US, Japan summit (August 2023)
At the joint news conference of the trilateral summit with U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Minister Fumio Kishida at Camp David, President Yoon Suk Yeol on Aug. 18 said, "Grounded in the core values of freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, a strong alliance of values among Korea, the U.S., and Japan will help build a world that's more peaceful and prosperous by serving as a sturdy foundation."
The three leaders agreed on the Principles of Camp David, which will function as guidelines for trilateral cooperation, and developed the Spirit of Camp David, a document embodying the vision of trilateral cooperation and ways to put their will to cooperate into action.
They also agreed to step up security cooperation to ensure their peoples' safety and peace in the region based on the now institutionalized Cooperation Framework.
In countering the DPRK's (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) nuclear and missile threats, the three leaders agreed the trilateral defense exercises were crucial. As a result, they said annual plans will be established for the ROK (Republic of Korea), U.S., and Japan drills they committed to.
Korea-US summit (August 2023)
President Yoon Suk Yeol on Aug. 18 held a bilateral summit with U.S. President Joe Biden before their trilateral summit with Japan at the U.S. presidential retreat of Camp David in Maryland. Both presidents discussed boosting their bilateral alliance, regional issues on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific region, and those of the world.
Both leaders hailed the launch of their Nuclear Consultative Group and deployment of U.S. strategic nuclear submarines to the peninsula as showing "faithful understanding" of the bilateral Washington Declaration, which was adopted in April. The two sides also decided to continue close cooperation to strengthen their extended deterrence, with President Biden reaffirming his country's commitment of ironclad defense and extended deterrence to Korea.
Korea-Ukraine summit (July 2023)
President Yoon Suk Yeol and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on July 15 held summit talks in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and agreed on the new Ukraine Peace and Solidarity Initiative. President Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee made a surprise visit to the war-torn country after completing their official visit to Poland.
Korea-Poland summit (July 2023)
President Yoon Suk Yeol on July 13 held a bilateral summit with Polish President Andrzej Duda in the Polish capital of Warsaw. Earlier in the day, President Yoon attended a luncheon hosted by Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki to discuss bilateral cooperation.
